Method

  1. 1

    Step 1

Preheat the oven to 150 °C conventional or 140 °C fan. Line a baking tray with baking paper.

  2. 2

    Step 2

Mix the oats, pumpkin seeds and a pinch of salt in a bowl. Add the maple syrup, oil and 1 tbsp water. Mix thoroughly until the oats are evenly coated.

  3. 3

    Step 3

Spread in a thin layer on the tray and press down lightly with the back of a spoon. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. About halfway through, carefully turn the mixture in larger pieces and spread it out again.

  4. 4

    Step 4

Take the tray out when the oats are lightly golden and smell toasted. The granola will still feel a little soft. Leave on the tray for about 20 minutes until completely cool, when it will become crisp.

  5. 5

    Step 5

Break the cooled granola into small, uneven pieces and divide into six small portions. Transfer to a dry airtight container.

Author tip

Choose plain oats and unsalted, unflavoured seeds. Let the granola cool completely before storing in a dry airtight container. The batch makes six small portions. Adjust the amount of seeds to your own tolerance.
