crab
This rating covers plain crab meat. Surimi and dishes with sauces need to be assessed separately.
Unsuitable
This food is often poorly tolerated with histamine intolerance.
Both SIGHI and NHS guidance recommend avoiding crab on a low-histamine diet. Crab meat spoils quickly, so freshness and storage matter. Even fresh crab may still cause problems for some people.
SIGHI also suggests that crab may trigger the release of histamine in the body. However, reliable clinical evidence for this effect is still lacking. A crustacean allergy is a separate condition and should not be confused with histamine intolerance.
High-protein decay risk: For rapidly perishable high-protein foods, storage and repeated reheating can increase histamine load, and reheating does not destroy the histamine formed.
Liberator: May trigger histamine release from mast cells independently of its own histamine content. learn more
