Peanut butter

Unsuitable

This food is often poorly tolerated with histamine intolerance.

Peanuts (Arachis hypogaea) are classified by SIGHI as highly problematic, and their consumption is not recommended for individuals with histamine intolerance. They act as potent histamine liberators, meaning they can trigger the release of the body's own (endogenous) histamine from mast cells. Furthermore, these legumes naturally contain other biogenic amines, such as spermine, which additionally burden the enzymatic process of histamine degradation in the body and can thus exacerbate the overall symptoms of the intolerance.

Liberator: May trigger histamine release from mast cells independently of its own histamine content. learn more
